I'm going to assume you're a newbie, cause I think most experienced offline Mahjong players know this, but having a square table with a lip, felt lining, and drawer is very conducive to the whole experience. You CAN play on just a flat, typical table, but they start causing obvious problems or annoyances to the speed of the game.
