Well I mean it's literally prose not poetry. For example, here's pic related from the other day which is one of my personal favorite scenes. The whole scene is emphasizing how utterly lifeless and void Soujuurou is (and how horrifying it is to the witness). In the second line, Nasu describes his eyes as colorless but however he uses one of the kanji (活) for life instead. He follows this up in the next sentences by using 活きてる instead of the far more common 生きてる. This is an interesting usage because this doesn't emphasize merely literally living (he describes the moon as more "alive" than Soujuurou), but rather is has a nuance have it having more activity or putting more effort. Of course, this is all lost in English.
