Probably, but it's a good attitude. While I agree that some of the 'fanon' personalities attributed to characters are obnoxious (often to the point of being a joke) part of the charm of the Touhou series is the open interpretation many doujin bring.

That said, he is able to do cute. Just in his own way...

ZUN does not design bullet patterns to be difficult, ZUN designs bullet patterns to be beautiful.

Before he builds a Touhou game, ZUN thinks to himself, "This is it. This game will have the most beautiful and perfect danmaku." A fit of drunken inspiration over comes him and he'll create the whole game--artwork, music and all--in a single night.

Afterwards ZUN spends months playing his newest creation. He obsesses over every spell card, every enemy fairy, every single bullet.

And then ZUN cries as a deep sorrow overtakes him. He finds some minor fault in every danmaku. No matter how beautiful or how elegant, it is never beautiful or elegant enough. The game will be good, the game will be great, the game will be wonderful, enjoyable, entertaining, beautiful; but it will not be perfect.

Tears roll down ZUN's face like rain from the heavens. He is agonized. He curses the gods and the spirits and all the world. How could he be blessed with such a vision as the most beautiful danmaku yet be unable to give it life in the games?

The convention comes, and he releases his game to much acclaim. He hides his pity for his audience. He wonders how they can accept what he sees as so clearly inferior. He drowns his melancholy in beer.

Then, a new vision comes to him! A pattern of unmatched complexity! The beauty of life, the beauty of the heavens, the beauty of all nature; all is made clear to ZUN in one brief moment of clarity.

ZUN reflects on this, and thinks to himself, "This is it. This game will have the most beautiful and perfect danmaku."

And the cycle happens anew.

Felis Ovum is awesome so long as you avoid his porn. It's more the level of detail and creepy monstrous sides of each girl that draws me to him.
