Well in that case I doubt you also would go to cons anyway. You can learn to improve but there is no point when you have to force yourself, you should enjoy doing it.

I have no visible muscles and I can do it. Although they are a bonus and they rule out that you are fat. Which you never should be.

So far I have learned a few things when cosplaying from myself and others:
1. Making the cosplay yourself has lots of advantages, it has the right size and females ask you often if you have made it yourself. Having someone do it and guesses your sizes likely results in it being like a corset, can't recommend it.
2. Females never say no to pictures with them if you say your hobby is to take pictures of yourself with hot girls. Don't hoover hand.
3. Don't have a cosplay that takes away your ability to walk (giant wings, tengu style shoes and such things).
4. Cosplays that have parts covered with warm clothes and others with none are a pain to wear temperature wise.
5. If your cosplay is fluffy to the touch, girls will hug you and wont let go.
6. Underage girls will take pictures with you even if you stand beside a camping van that has "Free candy" written somewhere and a comic LO in one of the windows.
