old ones had a slit on the upper part of the eye (right eye in pic) which is either covered with a plastic screen or a piece of black mesh.

newer masks have the slit and additionally slits around the eyes. the lower slits are always covered with a plastic screen. the top comes in mesh or plastic aswell.

from personal experience, the upper part gives great horizontal field of view and at least for me its pretty easy to read screens for example.

the lower part fogs up pretty quick with physical activity but when its not fogged up it gives great peripheral vision downwards which is a big help for not bumping into furniture and keeping your sense of balance
