I agree, the poor meeper could do literally anything other than sitting on her ass and sipping wine but she refuses to. Why? Because of apathy after 100+ years of watching the exact same events happening the exact same way and because she also has Hanyuu whispering into her ears that she shouldn't expect much when things go awry, because they always do. Someone could argue about what Hanyuu's true motives are, she must have her reason to disaparage Rika, but that's not important right now? Also, you've saved my screenshot but you're not using it properly and either forgot or don't know its context. It's from Miotsukushi PS2 in which Keiichi remembers previous events from previous worlds and he decides to confront Rika about her refusal to fight against fate with this Goat-like jab "why don't you just fight lmao". Rika hates her life and doesn't want to do anything, that's how depressed people act, they have no drive to fight and rather take it and complain about it instead of trying to find a solution to whatever problem they might have. It took me a while to warm up to Rika because every time she showed up all throughout the VN, she would stay in the background like a creepy observer and spout ominous lines. Then there was the reveal and I started to understand what her character was going through. And yes I am also biased towards her apathy and can relate to that, but also empathise and understand it somewhat, because of faggy personal-life reasons. Rika did nothing wrong, she's a sad sap who needs a push from her friends, and I also agree that a pessimistic character like her doesn't make for a good main protagonist, but the thing you shouldn't forget is that every club member adds something that the others don't have, which is the ultimate and hamfisted lesson of Higurashi that it's better to fight as one than all by yourself or else you start scratching your neck and kill people because of aliens, and all that gay shit.
