>Also does Triangle Heart 3 have anything interesting or important to it?
It's interesting on its own, but nothing pertaining to the Nanoha series other than that they reference it somewhat in the first series. In particular, they make it a point to note that Nanoha's father wasn't killed in this timeline thus not leading to the events of Triangle Heart 3. They're still a family of (former) bodyguards with insane anime sword skills though. I think you should at least watch the Triangle Hearts 3 OVA. There are some pretty cool fights.
It references Lyrical Toy Box or whatever Nanoha's spinoff VN was called a lot though, particularly in the opening sequence. If you watch the opening to that at least, which is readily view-able online, you'll get to have the fun of seeing a lot of references. There's also a scene or two where they nod to certain events in the game.

>where to start.
Depends on whether you're a magical girl fan or not. If you've watch ed a bunch of series, the first season is pretty good seeing Nanoha defy typical mahou shoujo conventions in the first few episodes, alongside the nods to the VNs its based off of. The movie isn't as good but it can be watched instead of the first series if you're going in without any of the prior knowledge of the VNs or magical girls, since people without it tend to be bored or something by it. As, the series is an absolute must watch. Its best if you watch the both series first in my opinion. The movies are kind of bleh compared, since they're part retelling, part embellished movies within the series
I want to add that I don't like Strikers and I would say just watch the 3rd movie after the first two series, but it has its moments.

>This is also why cell animation looks 'just right' and 'warm' in a way that is hard to put in words, while digital animation appears sterile in comparison.

This isn't what I (>>15534266) meant at all. I just meant I don't like the actual drawing, shading, and coloring styles of modern anime/games. I like the excessive folds and dark shadows and pointy detailed hair. There's some sort of feeling in design and execution that's lost too, that's hard to describe. It's not about the animation, but about the feel of the characters.

Think about panty shots and nipple slips back then. They'd have things like the panties showing at ties they'd normally show and only for a split second. Same with nipples popping out unless they were naked for some reason. Take this gif of Nanoha for example. That series (and even the first season of Dog Days somewhat) showed lots of panties but without making this huge deal about it, but still blatant.

Nowadays they can't even mention the panties without spending 10 seconds zooming in on the vaginal folds coming through the material. Shows tend to use characters with either more normal designs being ultralewd or wearing stuff that's basically being naked all the time. It's like severe fetishes leaking out all over the place in anime even though I felt the older ones were more shameless.

This is why it's hard to describe. They'll make an anime nowadays about normal schoolgirls but have it be entirely about pissing and lactation every episode, but in older anime you'd get like some girl wearing a cow print thong leotard with a tiny skirt and milk bottles hanging off the side, but it wouldn't involve lactation at any point and she'd fight against other girls wearing animal themed bikinis without them feeling embarrassed to be dressed up like, say, a bunny in suspenders and hotpants. Something was more shamelessly otaku about the designs and feel of certain anime. Ero stuff, kawaii stuff, moe stuff. Somehow it's become more perverse, but less "shameless". Girls will only wear lingerie for some ero scene, not just as part of their normal day-to-day clothes.

But that's just one thing. Well two, since I touched on the lack of silly clothes that aren't just for laughs. It's not about the perversion or shamelessness either, but about the overall eccentric(?) character design. I don't have any nostalgia for the animation process itself nor the "feel" of old animation.

But Fate's ass is the ass of the decade every decade, be she 9, 19, or 29. Nanoha was kind of a shit design as a kid. Generic porno imouto only good for her pantyshots.
