I don't even think it has anything to do with widescreen or not. It's simply stylized like that, because "normal is boring" or whatever. And widescreen can make it look absurd faster.

Widescreen has its own advantages, really. It became standard for a reason. Eroge being shitty is just eroge being shitty.
