This is actually kinda ironic because I feel like the whole TM lore debacle is in the same position as the whole DrakeNier lore debacle. People are seemingly more interested in engaging with side materials that drop meaningless lore tidbits than the actual substance of the source materials themselves (narrative, characters, theming etc.) In a lot of the side lore content, the writers are making it up as they go along. It's not like they always had this grand "master plan" narrative in their heads that they're slowly drip-feeding through lore dumps.

One thing that really exemplifies this in the Yoko Taro analogy is that one drama CD describing Tyrann's backstory where it goes into how Emil, Gestalt Kaine and Gestalt Nier had all previously met each other before Project Gestalt was fully mobilized. There's even a wink-wink-nod-nod moment where the characters are like "woaaaaaah... its like we were all destined to meet or something..." Does this side story that elaborates more on the lore actually add anything to the narrative of the source material? No, I'd even argue that it raises more questions and cheapens some aspects of the character writing. It feels like a lot of multimedia franchises that have a plethora of loredumps always end up in the same position where the lore discussion drags down the actual stories of the games.
