Something I rarely see noticed is that the magician trio represents three very common tropes:
Marisa is the witch on the broom living in a forest making potions and mixtures
Alice is the necromancer witch of the woods that steals children to make animated dolls out of them
Patchouli is the magician in a "tower" hoarding grimoires in her massive library, also pacts with the devil
