As the other anon said the general idea is that both are one and equal in everything, marriage also is a bigger thing in japan since you are expected to spend all your life with only one partner and divorce is frowned upon there, also it helps to actually think about marriage as something serious and not petty stuff
I have always thought that people who marry and sign shit to "stop the other from taking the half" is kinda bad, what is even the point of marrying someone you don't trust?, unless is loveless shit then yeah its fine i guess but this is pretty much most marriages nowadays, there is also the excuse of "if you get in debt then your partner would be protected from the financial backlash" but then again, what's the point of being married if you won't accept your significant other pain and problems and bear them with him?.
Imagine getting married and not trusting 100% your husband/wife, also imagine being married to someone and making him suffer for your actions, and even worse, one side retaliating and wanting to fuck up the other. That's not love at all.
