https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BCG_vaccine

>BCG immunization generally causes some pain and scarring at the site of injection. The main adverse effects are keloids—large, raised scars. The insertion of deltoid is most frequently used because the local complication rate is smallest when that site is used. Nonetheless, the buttock is an alternative site of administration because it provides better cosmetic outcomes.

Holy shit, the Tuberculous vaccine looks way too hard core.

Why hasn't anybody invented a better method for tuberculous vaccination?

No wonder America doesn't vaccinate for TB.

It looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen due to how pointy this vaccination looks.

It's from a BCG vaccine. I've seen it on a few japs, so it must be somewhat common way of delivering it there.

BCG and the smallpox vaccine leave scars. A lot of people over 40+ in the US have scarring from the smallpox vaccine. The smallpox vaccine was done with a bifurcated needle which was basically stabbed in a bunch of times in a circular area, leaving a pretty noticeable scar.

I guess it's easier to have a device make multiple punctures than having to do it manually, maybe it's more effective, who knows. The US doesn't do BCG.
