I agree, Rudolf is an especially bad standout in the family because to an extent, he's aware of how bad he really is but he doesn't put in the effort to change himself. This theme of being passive and turning a blind eye to your sins rings true for several others in the family but Rudolf is arguably the worst of the bunch. Battler is a parallel to Kinzo and Rudolf, he gets put in a lot of similair situations they've been in but manages to not be a complrte scumbag in them, hence why he recognizes Ange is just as much of a victim as he is and cares for her like he should, even if she's likely a permanent reminder of what happened between him and his father.

I believe the countdown to the Ushiromiya family's downfall truly started once Kinzo took off with Bice on that boat, but Asumu's death really did make things drastically worse. There would've been plenty of trouble still with all the sins and greed weighing down onto the family, not just Rudolf's, but what exactly would've happened there's no way to tell.

And on Kyrie, I feel like she isn't as heartless as she may seem even if she is terrible, terrible enough to be ready to kill Asumu if it came down to it, her maybe having poisoned Asumu isn't something I'd thought of before but I can buy it. I believe she did genuinely care for Ange and Battler to an extent, she just said those things to Eva in order to make sure Eva wouldn't think Ange would be like Kyrie, Kyrie manipulates people like that throughout the entire vn. She has things she cares about but Rudolf just takes priority over everything, and once he's gone it all crumbles. She herself is just as spineless as Rudolf in that regard, she acknowledges she's bad but she doesn't change it, she abd Rudolf feed off of each other kind of.

Unrelated but there's tons of clever dialogue with Kyrie in EP1. Once you know her intentions and read into her dialogue, you realize just how cunning she is from the very start and that she always has her eyes on the prize. I'd mention an example but I'm short on time but it's why I love rereading EP1, do many clever details
