Done so far:
- Kanas
- Grinded through first 1200 kanji
- Read Tae Kim's grammar guide
- Through 1½ Japanese study books I found
- Got a penpal from Japan (through japan-guide.com), writing weekly
- Plus some other bits of media

I study a bit every day, even if it's just in the bus on the way to work and back. I feel like I'm improving every day.
