Well, here's the thing. Based on everything I've tried to collect and learn about her, it seems to me that she is simply a Joke character. Her interactions, her appearances, her "character" (she's just a Chinese person caricature). She's freaking comedic relief in actual canon. It's hard to tell because Touhou is already such a lighthearted setting, but I'd still bet dollars to donuts on it.

It also makes trying to do anything with her incredibly difficult, like trying to make a wall out of smoke. Even the relationship with Flandre, one of the few positive things for her that has a foothold in fanon, is completely made up. There's NOTHING that says the two ever even see each other.

There's no doubt Meiling brings some her troubles on herself, I'm not saying otherwise. But if you take PMiSS to amount to anything, it says she does in fact wake up if someone tries to get past her. Since it ended up being Patchouli that caused the little incident you're referring to, she likely just quietly did it with some magic while Meiling was having her noon nap.

Also she barely has any related dialogue in IaMP, just Sakuya's usual "Don't slack off" bit, and Patchouli bitching about Marisa getting in for the umpteenth time even after it's been thoroughly established that Meiling can't stop her.

As for the BAiJR, yeah that pretty much did directly nod at her slacking off for naps. Still don't see how this clashes with what I said before.

Not who you're talking to, but I don't really see how anyone could think any sort of touhou pairing is canon. It's really all just for our personal shits and giggles.
