I don't Identify as anything.

My hobby is reading manga, watching anime and playing a few games. Why should I feel the need to label myself because of it?

It annoys the fuck out of me to hear people I know call me or themselves "Otaku."

Forgive me, I'm not an otaku and I don't even particularly like Japan. I come to you today respectfully bearing a question.

Why does every protagonist of a JRPG have an age between 17 and 19 years old, even when it completely does not fit the role of their character? Case in point:

Marco (マルコ, Maruko?) is a 17-year-old male agent with the intelligence agency of the nation of Alicetel and Stock's subordinate. Known Rainey since their days as mercenaries, the two made a rough combination. They were picked up, and put into the intelligence agency of the nation of Alicetel by Heis after their mercenary group was destroyed. Marco is very realistic and careful at whatever he does, traits that made him a good partner, he is very skilled with sword-fighting, and excels at gathering information. During a mission to rescue a fellow agent who was captured by the Granorg's government, Marco along with the rest of Stock's team were caught by Granorg's army.
