I think that is kind of the point. Gil is supposed to be this super arrogant asshole who constantly underestimates danger and doesn’t give a shit. Part of that is because of his power and kingly nature, and another part is because he hates the modern world. I never really got the impression that he was supposed to come across as cool or likable in the original VN. In F/Z, because he has more interactions with people that are more similar to him in nature (Kotomine and Iskandar) he does come across as more likable when talking to them, but that’s pretty much it. I don’t really think he is a character you are supposed to identify with or root for in most situations.
