I can kinda see why they replaced Nero, Vlov is a more "vampire-like" vampire, and he also created a shit ton of zombies, which explains why there are so many in the city, it didn't make much sense before that Shiki/Roa created them all alone.
Still, maybe they should have modified Nero to suck blood or something if they were going for that angle.
