This may not have been an intentional change, and I believe it is tied to Ciel's design becoming less drab.

My theory is that the Akiha and Ciel redesigns were in proximity for too long a time, and this allowed the color to drain from Akiha into Ciel, via the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics.
