It really is quite funny. Matsumoto even comments on it from time to time, how it seems to him that Hamada wants to be the boke. He's doing a good job at that, incidentally, thanks to his onset senility creating so many gags.

All things considered it's clear there's still love there, even if they don't admit it or even directly contradict it. Their body language is that of total comfort, in episodes when the two get buzzed it seems almost as if they're a couple. Matsumoto has said he hopes to die before Hamada so as not to have to be at the funeral of his partner, & they've basically agreed that if one should wish to stop doing comedy the other would follow suit.

Endo & Tanaka are still buds, though the former has gotten to be super close with Hamada in recent years. They go out drinking, play golf, etc. You can see it in the shows too, there's a lot of skinship between them. Hamada often reaches out toward him in various ways & laughs at his moments generously.
