Dunno why but I looked up the difference between 国語 and 日本語 and got this as one of the results.
While reading it I got thrown off by

My question is, that's just the writers way of illustrating that みえた is the past tense of 見る right? There's not really any sense of "I wanted to see to the sea and then I did" built into た is there?
