Personally for me its because I was already a fan of mysteries and other stories akin to it before I read it. And Umineko does a suberb job of not just being a unorthodox mystery story, but also of desconstructing even though the word has lost its meaning and criticizing mysteries and the genre overall.
Its value is way greater than just the usual mystery story.
