What types of doll photos do you enjoy the most? I love dolls with dolls and dolls in the outside world.

Dolls come in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials. The ones in this thread are primarily Dollfie Dreams and Mini Dollfie Dreams, which are made from vinyl by the company Volks. Other doll companies include Obitsu (Parabox in the US,), Smart Doll, Azone, and Visuadoll which you may enjoy -- my recommendation is to look around and see what you like and dislike about the dolls you find, and then choose a doll from there. Each company has default models that come with a body, head, and sometimes accessories -- so if you see one you like, you can jump right in! Their storefronts also frequently sell accessories like wigs, eyes, and clothes, too. It's a great place to start!

One important thing to note is that each doll corresponds to a certain set of measurements, called the 'scale'. The most common scales in this thread are 60cm (1/3 scale,) 40cm (1/4 scale,) and 20-30cm (1/6). This is important to note when buying clothes and accessories, as something made for a 40cm Mini Dollfie Dream won't fit a 60cm Dollfie Dream body! Other than that, however, sizes are mostly a matter of personal preference, so pick what you like!

While the default models can be quite nice (Dollfie Dream Sister Karin seems particularly popular,) many people prefer to have dolls with custom-painted faces. This is something you can do yourself if you are artistically inclined, or something you can commission an artist to do paint for you if you're not. Some artists also make custom heads and list them for sale on websites like Etsy and Yahoo Japan Auctions (which is where many of them originate.) Prices on custom heads can vary wildly, and popular artists can sell their work for literal thousands of dollars -- but you can also find deals if you look around, and very few dolls sell for that much money! Whether you get something direct from a company, order something custom from an artist on etsy, or bid on a head from an auction site, what matters most is that you like it. Secondhand stores like ebay and mercari also have heads (and sometimes whole dolls) available for sale, so it can be worthwhile to look around. (Be careful of Dollfie Dream Miku Hatsune, however, as there are bootleg versions floating around and they look very silly in person.)

Accessories like wigs, outfits, eyes, and props can be found all over the internet. I personally get many of my doll things from Etsy and a webstore called Mandarake, which is a Japanese retail chain specializing in hobby goods of all sorts, including dolls.

What specifically interests you in dolls, anon? I can help you narrow it down, if you want.

TL;DR dollfie.volks.co.jp

(Note: this applies mostly to vinyl dolls. Resin dolls are also lovely, but the resin side of the hobby has a big counterfeit problem, so buying things secondhand can be dodgy. Alice's Collections (ACBJD) is reputable and reliable -- check out Aimerai and 2-D Doll for resin anime options!)

Good luck anon! Look around the secondhand markets- mandarake and mercari, ebay and yahoo japan auctions, and the #bjdsales tag on instagram. Vinyl dolls are a lot harder to bootleg compared to plastic/resin ones, so it's less worrisome to shop for DDs compared to other dolls. I never thought I would be able to afford a doll when I first joined this hobby, and now I have several! You'll get there one day, too. Be sure to come back and show us when that day comes, anon!

I just want to tell anyone that if you fall out of 'love' with your dolls and don't do anything with them for a while, that's normal, especially when you're stressed our in real life. Give it time. Interests wax and wane, and this one will return, too.

Azone dolls can sometimes wear barbie clothes, and Parabox does restock now and then but you might be waiting a long time for something to come back. Obitsu themselves have a .jp store, but you'll need to use a proxy service to order directly from them.

What you want are Blythe clothes and accessories -- most people mod them onto azone bodies, and everything but the headwear will be a 1:1 match for them. They're far more popular (for some reason,) so Blythe stuff is the way to go for clothes and props.

Head-wise, you can find them on ebay sometimes. You want a 1/6 scale wig, but I can't remember what size that is offhandedly- if you search for that they will come up. You're worrying too much about Coronavirus -- in the month+ it will take to get shit shipped to your house, whatever potentially might exist on your goods will be long dead, and if you're really concerned disinfect them and wash your hands. As long as you're not immunocompromised you don't have to worry nearly as much as other people do.

You'll figure it out, anon. Hang in there!

Oh hello Karin-anon, how are you two doing? I agree, this is a pretty relaxing corner of the internet for me personally, so I'm happy to do what I can to mind the threads -- even if I make mistakes now and then.
