If you use claws or whatever when duel wielding, it removes some kind of penalty (weight I think) but prevents duel wield from being trained.
Also when it comes to using speed items on yourself that's true in OO. In + pets inexcplicably get gigantic gains on stat increasing items compared to you; a blessed hermes blood on a pet in + gives 20 speed. Nearly 3 times as much as the same on a pc and 5 times as much as the same in vanilla.

Magic drain is neat. Against enemies with shit mana they just die at you. But it also counts as an attack on towns, aggro'ing people and eating your karma. Not really worth using.
