/m/'s sort of "scope-creeped" in that it now hosts threads for things that aren't just giant robots. Mostly just tokusatsu shows (ex* Kamen Rider, and especially shows that feature giant robots, but stuff like Garo also gets in) and general sci-fi shows (justification being the use of the Japanese definition of the word メカ rather than the western perception of the "mecha" genre).

Basically /m/'s not just solely giant robots, even though Gundam and Macross threads still make up most of the board. It's got enough space that some other sci-fi and tokusatsu things are generally given a pass by the board as a whole. Other things still aren't accepted, however, like "battle harem" anime that just coincidentally happen to have one or two robots because they want the robot otaku audience; those the other hand, when some people try to post "battle harem" anime that incidentally has one or two robots in it.
