Yes, it would be worse. Peter Payne has been suing people since the early 1990's and is still at it. This is not C&D but lawsuit filed with your court appearance and large penalties. It's profitable for him since you also pay court fees for both parties (dmca) since you are the losing party. You would not want the RIAA in charge of 4chan would you? Especially an RIAA that promoted piracy for anyone that was not a member of the RIAA which Peter Payne would. He considers business to be like a war, so piracy of his competitors' products helps him keep a near monopoly of sales outside of Japan. It's been so profitable that he even buys up various Japanese companies.
