Yeah I agree. Though the reason for missing kid interactions may just be that the system is raw shit and kids basically are an item held by the hu. I'd personally wait for a rework before commiting any serious thought towards that. Them just declaring you as a good/bad father after they leave through that letter with some money is painful.
Like how about utilizing parts of the mob system to create actual new characters with portraits and all, and let them keep their personality after they leave. Give them some autonomy. Let them love/hate/respect you, or their mother. Or other 2hus. Or your other kids. Give them real jobs that you could even learn with your own child later instead of simple flavor text of running into a kid in a random spot. Yeah yeah, I know, there's a limit of one mob at once. Just remove that, they're simple enough, this game should be able to handle a thousand npcs like that.
Imagine having a kid with Sakuya and your son absolutely loves playing with neighboring fairies, dislikes the noisy ghosts, is scared of Flandre and tries to act like a butler towards Remilia. Or is best friends with his half sister you've just made with Meiling, and your daughter likes the blonde oni that sometimes come by, trains with mommy all day, doesn't care about the vampires and likes Koakuma because her hair is similar to her mom's.
