Meele characters are great because they have the biggest damage potential (the two hand multiplier is huge later on and you can pierce through any armor easily plus they can use several weapons at once instead and take advantage of all their bonuses), they also have the biggest library of weapons at their disposal and you can use ranged attacks or magic for annoying enemies like bats or imps.
