I never got this impression, I think it's just you anon. Umineko never asks the reader to forgive any of its characters, only to try and understand. Battler is shown to be a character with a lot of compassion who is easily swayed by emotions, and he has personal history with Yasu that makes him able to forgive her. He also stops being a reader 'stand-in' starting episode 5 anyway.
