Learn everything on this cheat sheet. Then go look for something to read.
it's gonna be painful regardless of when you start or how much you think you already know, so why not start as quickly as possible so that you don't feel like you're suffering that much later on?

Study this. Then get yomichan and start reading.
Try to memorize only what seems worth memorizing. Ignore anything that seems trivial.

You'd be better off mining. You get vocab more relevant to the material you're reading that way. If you need audio and sentences for some reason, you can copy what Quiztard does and mine anime using his Share X method (I think M*tt also has a video on this).

You should look up every word you don't know (but at least try to figure it out first, guessing based on the kanji how it might be read and what it might mean), paying attention to how the word is written, not just glancing at the definition and rushing on, but there's no real reason to trouble yourself when it comes to grammar since you can look a lot of it up using just a J-E dictionary when your memory is failing you and you need a reminder of what something means. There are also cheatsheets like pic related which make a lot more sense to use as a reference than re-reading an entire page of a grammar guide when all you really need is a refresher.

If what you're reading has so many new words that you're having to look up several in pretty much every single sentence then you should probably read something else instead (unless you're literally just starting out reading, in which case this is kind of inevitable in anything until you get all the most common words down).

This is a Japanese language learning thread for those interested in flash cards, authentic japanese rap, and traditional otaku media.

If you have no interest in the above or want to request a translation, this is not the thread for you.

I don't use it, but it might be useful for someone who doesn't want to read through a guide every time they find particles used "wierdly" together in a manga. It comes with djt, in the \assets\res folder

As a complete beginner, you're probably not going to find anything that doesn't give you a pretty hard time. If you stick at it though, you will improve. Your best bet is probably to go for stuff which has a reputation here for being relatively simple and just read as much of it as you can.

A picture like this which you can quickly reference while reading to refresh your memory might make life a bit easier. Maybe someone else has a better one.

So this image describes TE form as a progressive form. I read Sakubi and the explanation was different.
Can someone spoonfeed what Te form is in simple English (my English is not very good)
