Theres thriving indie music scenes that are somewhat comparable to VOCALOID in the west (FNF comes to mind). My theory is that we just came up as an otaku child community from a japanese community that already feeds us well in songs and other content so that drive to create music was never as deeply installed into the fanbase's western side from the get go the way a music-less fandom (early vocaloid) had drive to create
