She's just a multi faceted character, which makes her an interesting and three dimensional character.
In my mind, Marisa is a girl who wants the respect of others, and wants to be liked. That's why she's such a social butterfly, and tries to hide her efforts from others.
Of course, there are a ton of ways to interpret her actions and personality traits, which is part of the reason I love her so much!
