Yeah, I get you. Dendro's main selling point is its depiction of the players' slow descent to madness, so introducing a character that's already insane from the get-go is not that amusing in retrospect. But it's a bit too soon to judge her entirely though, the IF mini side-story actually hints that Emmy has a somewhat sound mind, which means that she's miles more dangerous than Hannya and made her Ult much more menacing, given that she's the only IF member aside from Lacrima that we haven't seen their full capabilities yet.
Putting that aside, I've never thought I would actually enjoy Pale Psalms this much. It's nice seeing how Hugo breaks out of her shell/facade and starts to interact with the world proper as Yuri Gautier and not Hugo Lesseps, not to mention how Cyco keeps gaslighting Hugo to face her problems head on and how she doesn't even bother putting any effort in hiding Hugo's real self past Franklin's arc.

Not exactly no, they're not as niche as a medium and their popularity tends to be heavily influenced by their publisher unlike VNs, so most of the time hidden gems will keep being hidden and the blandest wordsalad can be praised to hell (looking at you Overlord, yes this is mostly bait). Not to say that they don't exist at all mind you, but a better term would probably be "LNs that kickstarted an entire generation of tropes" rather than Kami(No/Be/Ru?) when talking about popularity, genre, etc. You know, things like Index's Normal Highschool Boy, Slayers' High Fantasy setting, ZnT's Isekai, MaouYuu's Yuusha (instead of Eiyuu), Accel Word/SAO's MMORPG (it really should be Hack, but we're talking about LNs here), and Guin Saga's saga (read: long-ass volumes) I suppose?
I'm willing to say OT Index and Horizon as Kaminos though, at least for Battle Harem for the former and Senki for the latter.

It's volume 1, what do you expect? The series is written like the start of an urban legend, shitters got no name and distinctive characteristics but you know they're the real deal once they have their own epithet. He at the very least can fight Wizard evenly at the last volume, though he's already a decent fighter by the time Shaga came in.

For first timers, try watching the anime/manga adaptation at first. If you're hooked, continue with the LNs, that way you can still get the general idea even if you skim through most of the story. Try Hyouka as a start, then move on to something longer like Heavy Object, then Regios, etc. Later on you'll feel that 20 vols is fucking nothing in the grand scheme of things, the real deal starts at 40.
