Chapter 4 opens with Tohya and Ikuko discussing what they've just read, and why the author is choosing to place this story in between Turn and Banquet. It can't take place before the end of Turn, because Battler hasn't had a major enough loss to be humble enough to accept help, and it can't take place after Banquet because by that point, he's been betrayed by Virgilia, and becomes far less naive and trusting. This transitions into an examination of his motives being far more open and simple than the likes of Virgilia, Ange and Erika, which works very well for Battler at this point in the story. It's worth noting that they do not make any mention of Dawn, Requiem or Twilight, so it's possible that this VN takes place before those 3 episodes happen. Finally this evolves into a monologue for Tohya being similar to Erika, as he too is willing to rip out the guts of the truth and repeatedly write stories in which his own family is brutally murdered, and be relaxed by something so grotesque. He starts to freak out, wondering how things have gotten to this point, before it cuts to the gameboard.
