If you're honestly saying this thread compares to the ocean of slutposting back in the day, then no, you haven't been around when the slut meme got coined. For starters, genuine Sanae fans are now a majority compared to the shitposters and *not* a near non-existence.

Was looking for a fun and unique Soku main and she simply clicked with me. Once I got used to her playstyle, I went through her dialogues and got hooked on how likable she it - her fun to be around with personality and her being a human who supports other humans in particular (that was back when I was just getting the hang of canon and 9 out of 10 characters had a potential another side to them that I despised - especially the youkai). And then I noticed how incredibly underappreciated she was, which was the final push - now she's my favorite Touhou for 3 years and counting.

Sanae, due to the following:

She is hardworking for her goddesses because they need faith to live, but can talk back to them too (Suwako in her 12.3 story mode), yet can go really far for their sake (the threat to Reimu in MoF).

She is nice, polite (even if she accidentally offends people), and is one of the few characters firmly on the side of humans and willing to fight for their sake. She is a goldmine of real world references and understands much more than most of the characters, which also leads to awesome facets of her personality like the interests in mech or broad knowledge about nuclear physics. Her disposition is a breath of fresh air compared to gloomy or arrogant citizens of Gensokyo and she's so energetic it's contagious. She's basically Haruhi minus the jerkassery.

She might be a little to eager a youkai exterminator, but that's just a side effect of learning a fighting style that utilizes your godly powers for an extremely fun and colorful battles that are also completely harmless. Her eagerness also contrasts with Reimu, who is mostly grumpy towards all the things Sanae is excited with, like Reimu of PC98.

She is the one girl that would both protect you and become your best friend, brightening your days. And she is not a Mary Sue either, considering the humiliation she goes through early.

Her skills are awesome too. A wide array of colorful miracles, from water to wind and falling stars, goddess summons, standard miko stuff like amulets, gohes and barriers (star-shaped in her case), and she ever plays around with ridiculous stuff like exploding fortune packets and rice crops for great results.

And as for her clothes, all the arts in this thread are a testament to her cuteness. Her eyes and hair have beautiful colors, her attire is simple yet creative (the sleeves and patterns on her skirt), she's a shapely young woman and she even has a semi-official school uniform as an alternate costiume. What more could one want?
