Seeing this made me kinda wonder, is receiving heavy damage equivalent to what we consider serious physical damage, like breaking bones and inner bleeding?

It would explain why some ships need a full day of repairs after a 5 minute sortie. That's equivalent to a soldier spending almost 300 days in the hospital ward after being seriously injured on a one day operation.
