Do not be under the illusion that this is an easy task.

Let's look at what makes a visual novel:
Writing.
The bread and butter. Easy to pound out, but also easy to have look like shit. Nonetheless, this is somewhat easy to practice and become better at.

Art.
This is the main problem with VNs. You'll need
Sprites
Backgrounds
CGs
The game UI
This will take a long, long time, probably taking the longest production time in a VN project. It also required close collaboration between the artist(s) and writers.
