The neckbeards at /g/ recommend ESET NOD32 Home Anti Virus for your needs of preventing malware infections. It costs $40 for a license for one computer. Another solid option is Kaspersky Internet Security, which has a software firewall (usually unnecessary unless you have pirated applications you need to prevent from calling home) and that is around $80 for 3 licenses for 3 computers. I've used both and I recommend NOD32, the system slowdown caused by its real time scanning is among the least of all of them and the detection rates are top notch.

That is running a little hot. What kind of processor do you have? It would generally be running too hot for a Core 2 and a touch too hot for an AMD X2, but if it is a Pentium 4 that is pretty much within the normal range, P4s run very hot.
