I think it's just common courtesy to use spoiler tags no matter the game as we're talking about story centric medium anyways, as there can be people who are more versed in old games but also those who've played new releases more without diving into old classics or even less known games first. Even if there's people who have played both old and new games there's always bound to be someone who hasn't yet put their hands on some certain title in either category.
