I did make some of the earliest shops with the swirl tool in paintshop pro 6.. I don't remember if I was the first to post "ransmirk" or "orlyran" here as the first time I saw it was on akibakko.net before it imploded.

Other people started using it immediately after posting so it kind of took on a life of its own.

I checked in on 2chan and saw it was being regularly posted there as well so I figure a lot of people must have seen the universal appeal of it as a response without any text of both condescending and approval long before I found it.
