Obligatory outsider meme aside, absolutely. From some Theosophists to some Nazis and Neo-Nazis themselves to some 60's-80's Afrocentric cults, it's just another weirdo belief that x people is actually descendant of some advanced aliens, everyone wants a piece of that narcissistic pie.

I both agree and disagree. Maybe it's because people almost never mention anything beyond Xenu and celebrities, but there's something quite boring about Scientology to me, maybe because it really is unique, Hubbard's own scams and Thelema with a pseudo-scientific coat, while almost every other cult can generically fit in certain bigger movements and a long list of things it's ripping off. Less people mention the crazier shit like the original OT8 and Hubbard claiming he would reincarnate as the Antichrist, or him sailing around the world and trying to find any government that would accept his teachings before being kicked.

I've been resisting from posting this for weeks since it's becoming off-topic, but on the topic of Japanese cults: Something I never seen mentioned in English is the inspiration for the last SZS opening reference a Japanese cult from the 60's and 70's that got into a scandal over, from what I can understand, the higher members believing they got a signal from UFO's and would be whisked away anytime now(?). They changed some more obvious lyrics over fear that surviving members would cause commotion. They still have a monument in Hokkaido they built, interpreting Ainu legend to have aliens.
