The only part i find nosense it's Kanon is a farce.
I firmly believe he was "real" as Shannon, only more laid back with his feeling.

Otherwise, the whole duel and internal conflict loses meaning to me.

Yasu's motive for killing was the game.

Yasu wanted Battler to solve the epitaph to win the game. What better way to force someone to solve it by saying "solve it or die" Without killing anybody, the threat wouldn't be taken seriously. The moment Yasu solved the epitaph, all lives of the Ushiromiya belonged to her anyway.

Yasu was really only following what Kinzo would do: make a life or death game. Her life was at stake too. If the epitaph wasn't solved, she would kill herself with the explosion. Battler solving the epitaph is considered a miracle and the higher the stakes, the more likely the miracle will occur.
