>Think of Bern's "Battler is dead" truth in episode 8 when he literally survived and only lost his memory. That's not death, that's not what actually happened.
Battler is dead though, the entire point of that Red Truth is built on the idea of identity in Umineko being about personality and memories. Battler is dead at that point, only Tohya exists. It's a valid red truth, it's not an arbitrary contradiction thrown out that isn't actually real.
>Unreliable narration was a part of higurashi since episode 1 so it's not like that came out of the blue.
But the difference is the unreliable narration in Higurashi isn't revealed or hinted at as unreliable narration until later on. It's not like Umi where you have unreliable narration, and then Umi telling you how unreliable narration works and how magic is an example of unreliable narration.
>Episode 3 never clarifies whose pov is reliable and whose isn't though
That's true, but unreliable narration isn't as egregious as it is in Higurashi because you still have objective and solid red truths to hold on to that can lead you to the answer. Again, it's why Shannon = Kanon was literally the most popular theory to the point that people were memeing about it before Episode 5 even released.
