I wouldn't compare Miku to just an instrument, at the end of the day she's a character as much as she's a voicebank.

I gotta say, I don't dislike Miku or anything, but she's definitely not my favorite. As far as looks and voice go, she'd probably be middle of the pack for me. And I do tend to get a bit salty inside with how much more famous Miku is than the others, and I've seen similar feelings expressed in the past in these threads (not sure how common it is).

However, at the end of the day, Miku doesn't "steal away" the spotlight from anyone else - there simply wouldn't be a spotlight if it wasn't for Miku.

Rather than hogging popularity, Miku can basically keep Vocaloid alive by herself forever at this point, and I think any fan would recognize that, which is why basically nobody has any actual hate for her. So basically, the people who love Miku love Miku, and there's no one hating Miku in response, unlike what you'd expect.
