Context: Iroha Translations is a moderately large clipping channel. I'm not subscribed, but I see a fair number of the videos. A few of the videos have had some poor practices, but this one is particularly bad.

I'm making this post not to try to start a drama or attack the channel but instead to act as a case study of why clippers and translators need to practice care and ethics when clipping as well as a reminder to not inherently trust clips as a viewer.

Iroha posted this video today. It's a translation of Flare asking not to be called "coffee-elf". The video has been warped into supporting the translators theory where Flare is saying she will make her skin white because people are bullying her.

The translation seemed to be inaccurate and the translator even admits this in the description. It should have been obvious not to clip anything sensitive unless you should be extremely confident in your skills at translating. To make things worse, the translation appeared to be a biased and included the translators own opinions and theories (an example included adding quotation marks around a word to add a different implication to it); several comments mentioned that the wording itself seemed biased, I don't have a grasp of Japanese good enough to confirm or disprove these claims. Once the clip started to get dislikes the clipper hid the like/dislike ratio. The video description also contained the clippers theories and misleading claims.

The clip also had ads before it. I'm a clipper myself and while I never put ads on my videos I also have nothing against those who do. But putting ads on a sensitive video is wrong. If you clip a sensitive topic you shouldn't be doing it for money.

To conclude this, as a viewer be careful to not trust clips inherently. If you are a clipper you need to make sure not to abuse the responsibility of acting as the member's communication to their viewers.
