its polite of you to post on /jp/ without your trip, but starting a thread by announcing you're from a different board, regardless of it not being a/b/v is still offputting to many /jp/ers.

Also, as stated, many neo-/jp/ers here look down on ``waifuism'' as an /a/ habit and use it as an excuse to shitpost.

You probably only know those stats from vidya. The AK is a wonderful platform and is more accurate than you would imagine. The reason the rifle still exists is because it works. Sure, its been updated a couple times (the AKM, 74, 10X series, ect) but its a solid, cheap, and reliable design that flat out works. the 74 uses the 5.45 cartridge and I've had the pleasure of owning and on 2 occasions building these rifles from parts. They are fantasticlly accurate and stay that way out to about 300m (which is the same effective range as the m4/m16). Past 300m things get a bit whacky but thats more the round than the weapon and the 7.62x39 round (used in the 47/AKM type rifles) has much better ballistics for distance. Realistically you're not going to engage targets that far out with that type of rifle and you use something different.

For the job that the AK pattern rifles has, its a fine weapon, only video games and other media portray it as a piece of crap. For the record AR pattern weapons are fine too. Sure, you can do a bit more with AR pattern weapons than you can with AK pattern guns, but the difference is trivial at best and would only be noticeable in very specific competition environments.
