I had heard of the masking tape method for years but was afraid to try something new. Now that I have learned it I would never go back.

First time I tried it I totally ruined the sprite so start with a small one. Do not let the tape touch the sprite then curl up as everything will come up with it and fan out words so they will not go back on the board as a group and need to be reset individually.

When I am going to tape off a large sprite I take one long piece of tape and place it carefully but firmly down the center then cascade each piece of tape off of it so the piece of tape I am setting it anchored to the a piece of tape that is already set, stopping it from curling up and ruining the sprite.

Just like ironing it is just something you learn by doing to do a small sprite you don't mind losing for your first try.
