Love itself is a delusion, but unmistakably a highest grade one. It creates people and it creates worlds. Alongside effects which blur perception of reality, love is the most powerful in it's effects and aftermath. There is no equal for it, even drugs don't compare.

That said, consider this. People like us change themselves on daily basis. The act of learning a new skill discards your old habits, replacing them with improved habits which benefit you more. By doing this, one betrays themselves in order to be better. Man at five months old walks on all fours, but then he walks upright on two legs. First he doesn't know how to speak, but the he learns queen's english. And then maybe two or three other languages. Many things like that happen. That is man betraying his own incompetence. That is man betraying himself, his past self. Therefore, with time, love itself will fade.

However, love as a delusion proves to a man and his lover. It proves that this love will outlive a man and a woman's body. That a man will not change his mind about that love. That is the reward a man gets for sticking to one lover. It is a powerful insurance for both parties that they will love and feel loved. However, that is merely a tool towards that love. How can you truly argue for one approach over others? If there are other ways to love, would you discard them and toss them into the fire? Love is a great virtue, abandoning it is sin, no matter the cause.
