I actually really, really like Marisa and find her to be one of Touhou's more interesting characters.

I like that she's cute but also pretty cool, tomboyish but also girlish and fashionable. She is a nice character who tries to be strong even though she's weak (this applies to both her magic and personality).

Marisa hoards treasure. She doesn't even care for the individual items, and will often forget that she has them. She just feels uncomfortable unless she's surrounded by valuable things. This is not healthy.

Marisa goes out of her way to seem open and form friendships with people, but pushes away her own family. If anyone asks her why, she immediately turns quiet and says that's none of their business.

Lying is a big part of Marisa's character, both to others and to herself. Almost everything she said in her fight with Satori was a lie - Marisa was genuinely concerned for Gensokyo, but was ASHAMED of herself for that and tried to convince everyone she was just goofing around. Even her magic is a lie - she's a water mage who uses only light spells (stolen light spells at that), because she hates her own magic and everyone loves twinkling stars.

Marisa has multiple ways of reaching immortality by now but she's scared of using them, because then "Marisa Kirisame, the Ordinary Magician" will no longer exist. Marisa doesn't just cultivate an image for herself, she's utterly dependent on it.

In SWR the inside of Reimu's soul is like the sun, but Marisa's soul manifests itself as dull grey rainclouds. Komachi, who had given freakishly accurate readings of the other characters, tells Marisa one thing:
>"You will die alone"
