You think JIs are some poor, exploited children shoved into slavery by their corrupted parents and they end up as mental wrecks later on. The opposite is the case. Firstly the agencies approach the girls themselves when they scout them. They get a business card and time to check out their website and call back for an interview. Once they're fully informed, they need their parents' consent. A lot of girls only do single shootings for magazines so they can show it to their friends to make them jealous. It's like a status symbol. The ones with permanent contracts get paid very well and they decide the nature of the photos taken. There are some girls who don't want to wear bikinis. The photographer never tells them to arch their backs or anything like that. There's half a dozen people on set with female makeup artists being the only ones to touch them. A moderately successful gravure JI can save enough money to fully cover their university costs. A super star like Tomoe, Rei or Anjyu earn quite a bit more. For many of those girls it is the jump into their dream career like acting, singing or any media related stuff.

Rei has repeatedly stated that she doesn't regret her career at all, but the backlash she received from Westerners who discovered her past after Ladybaby exploded. She turned out a cutter because she's on this stupid, self-centered, pseudo emo trip and wants to be dark and edgy. It's a phase and the only thing she'll eventually regret is blowing her gravure career for her shitty band.
